If you find that your Sub Zero freezer is not cold enough, this can be due to its faulty parts, such as the following:
Start Relay
- You can run a test for its continuity between the start and run terminals. If there’s no continuity, you will need to replace the start relay.
Evaporator Fan Motor –
- Check the fan’s motor by opening the door of the freezer and activating the door switch. Usually, this will get the evaporator fan running again if the door is open because the freezer door is open, and the fan automatically stops running.
Condenser Coils
- If the freezer is the type that condenser coils inside its walls. Then there is no need to clean it. But, if you easily see them behind or under the freezer, check to see if it is dirty. Clean them thoroughly and repeat them every 6 months.
Condenser Fan Motor
- You can try to spin the condenser fan’s blades with your hand. If it is stiff, then be aware of the bearings of the motor of the fan are worn and need to be replaced.
Evaporator Coils
- The evaporator or cooling coils are responsible for releasing the cold air so that the evaporator fan can blow it into the freezer. If they have frost on them, you will not be able to perform optimally. Consequently, there will be no cold air in the freezer.
Temperature Control Thermostat
- Moving the thermostat to its highest settings from whichever point it will cause a clicking sound. This lets you know that the thermostat is working properly. But if the clicking sound doesn’t come, check for its continuity using a multimeter. If it doesn’t have any continuity, the thermostat will need to be replaced.
Compressor Not Working
- If the compressor is now working, it won’t be able to circulate the freezer coolant in its cooling pipe. A faulty compressor will also cause the refrigerant not to flow, so the refrigerator can’t remove the heat in the freezer.
